Nationalist Government Era (October 1928 - June 1948)

1928
October - The Nationalist government sets up the Examination Yuan preparatory office. The Organic Law of the Examination Yuan is promulgated. Tai Chuan-hsien, Sun Ke, and Chen Ta-chi are named president, vice president, and secretary-general of the Examination Yuan, respectively.
December - The Organic Law of the Ministry of Civil Service is promulgated.

1929 
March - The Statutes on Leave for Political Appointees are promulgated. 
May - The Examination Yuan headquarters are inaugurated at the Kuankung and Yueh Fei Temple in Nanking.
August - The Examinations Law and the Organic Law of the Examination Committee are promulgated.
October - The Civil Service Employment Statutes are promulgated.
November - The Civil Service Performance Evaluation Law is promulgated.

1930
January - The Examination Yuan and its subordinate Examination Committee and Ministry of Civil Service are formally established.
May - the Proclamation Statutes are promulgated.
November - The Examination Administration Law, the Examination Supervision Law, and the Examination Reevaluation Statutes are promulgated.

1931
March - The Special Examinations Law is promulgated.
June - Liu Lu-yin is named interim vice president of the Examination Yuan. The Law on the Discipline of Public Functionaries is promulgated.
July - The first Senior-grade Civil Service Examinations are held in Nanking. The Commendation and Rewards Statutes are promulgated.

1932
July - The County Magistrate Appointment Law is promulgated.
November - Niu Yung-chien takes office as vice president of the Examination Yuan.
December - Hsu Chung-hao is appointed secretary-general of the Examination Yuan. Junior-grade Civil Service Examinations are held in Shansi Province.

1933
December - The Medal Conferral Statutes are promulgated.

1934
March - The Statutes on Civil Service Pecuniary Aid are promulgated.
April - The Civil Service Registration Statutes are promulgated. The first Junior-grade Civil Service Examinations are held in Nanking.

1935
July - The Civil Service Performance Evaluation Law and the Examination Affairs Law are promulgated.
November - The Statutes on Civil Service Performance Evaluation, Rewards, and Punishment; the Technologists Employment Statutes; and the Police Officers Employment Statutes are promulgated. 

1936
October - The Budgeting, Accounting, and Statistics Personnel Employment Statutes are promulgated.

1937
December - The Examination Yuan is relocated to Chungching during the Sino-Japanese war.

1938
October - The Temporary Statutes on Special Examinations During the Emergency Period are promulgated.

1939
August - An administrative order is issued, requiring candidates in the Senior-grade Civil Service Examinations to take preliminary and final tests as well as undergo a training program.
October - The first Senior-grade Civil Service Examinations during the warring period are held in Chungking and six other places; the Civil Service Law is promulgated.

1940
March - A central personnel administration convention is held.
May - The Statutes on the Selection and Appointment of Members of the Committee in charge of Examination Affairs are promulgated. 
July - The Statutes on Civil Service Employment in Warring Areas During the Emergency Period are promulgated. 
November - The Statutes on the Judges Pension Fund are promulgated. 

1941
January - The Lawyers Law is promulgated.
February - The Medals Conferral Statutes are promulgated.
December - Li Pei-chi is named secretary-general of the Examination Yuan, and Chia Ching-te, minister of civil service.

1942
January - Chu Chia-hua and Li Pei-chi are sworn in as vice president and secretary-general of the Examination Yuan, respectively. Li is assigned to another post and succeeded by Shih Shang-kuan.
September - The Organic Statutes of the Examination Yuan Regulation Committee, the Personnel Management Statutes, the Professionals and Technologists Examinations Law, and the County Personnel Examinations Statutes are promulgated.

1943
February - The Civil Service Performance Evaluation Statutes During the Emergency Period are promulgated.
April - The Civil Service Grade Assessment Statutes are promulgated.
May - The Examinations Law for Candidates Campaigning for Provincial and County Offices are promulgated. 
June - The Statutes on the County Magistrates' Selection of Qualified Candidates from the Senior-grade Civil Service Examinations, and the Statutes on the Selection of Public Functionaries for Advanced Training and Onsite Observation are promulgated. 
September - The Pharmacists Law and Midwives Law are promulgated.
November - The Civil Service Pecuniary Aid Law and the Civil Service Retirement Law are promulgated.

1944
March - The Embassy and Consulate Personnel Employment Statutes are promulgated. 
April - The Contracted Personnel Management Statutes are promulgated. 
June - The Retirement Statutes for School Teachers and Staff, and the Statutes on Pecuniary Aid for School Teachers and Staff are promulgated. 
October - The Statutes on the Transfer of Military Court Personnel to Judges are promulgated.
November - Chou Chung-yu is appointed vice president of the Examination Yuan.

1945
March - The Civil Service Transfer Statutes are promulgated.
June - The Accountants Law is promulgated.

1947
March - The Health and Sanitation Business Personnel Employment Statutes and the Organic Law of the Examination Yuan are promulgated.
April - Tai Chuan-hsien is appointed president of the Examination Yuan.
October - The Technologists Law is promulgated.
December - The Transportation Business Personnel Employment Statutes are promulgated. 

1948
January - The Examination Yuan holds the county-magistrates examinations for Taiwan Province in Taipei. 
May - The Nationalist government stipulates that the Organic Law of the Examination Yuan revised in 1947 will take effect on the day the Examination Yuan president is appointed in accordance with the Constitution.
